The Role of the Teacher

The StoryJam package has been put together to make the teacher’s job as pain-free as possible. So what do you have to do?

1. Help students choose a story.

  • Read, tell, or play recordings of the stories in the package. Some students may be intimidated by a page of writing, but are quite willing to read and retell a story once they’ve heard someone else do the telling.

2. Give students class time to practice telling.

  • Have them tell to a partner or small group.

  • Encourage them to tell parts of their stories to the class. e.g. the opening, the ending, a moment of suspense.

3. Check out the StoryJam website for more storytelling suggestions.

4. Use the StoryJam package for suggestions on how to improve presentation skills.

5. Let them shine.

  • Arrange for students to tell their stories to another class.

  • Allow students to record their stories.

6. Use evaluation forms to record marks and reporting statements.
